Stress. I struggle with it every day, but it is not necessarily a negative thing, it can also be a driving force that leads you to some place better. When I face stress in my life, more than not, my symptoms return. This may be just anxiety and depression, but in many cases it leads back to psychosis. So I guess the important thing for me, is to learn how to deal with my stress in a constructive manner. Everyone deals with stress in their own ways, depending on their personalities, histories, mental states and coping strategies. I don’t have all the answers, but it’s something I need to look at in my own life. Sometimes it helps to take a step backwards when faced with great emotional turmoil, take a fresh look at the situation with clearer eyes, and come back with solutions to situations that seem at the time impossible to work through. Reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness, but rather using the tools and people you have around you to help you stand up when the knees feel like buckling beneath you, that is strength, pure strength. My aim is to deal with stress in the most productive way I can, and to share what I have learned so that others can in turn deal with their own stresses. You know the saying, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’, well it is probably an accurate statement. So I say this to you, take a deep breath in and out, and face your stress with bravery; you’ve got this!
